Sto:lo Nation

(2000 – ongoing)

•  Treaty advisor for forestry, lands and resources. Chair of Forestry Technical Working Group. Member of the Sto:lo Nation Wide Caucus that has met for two days every two weeks since January 2000.
•  Prepared an Interim Measures Agreement on Forestry that was tabled with BC and Canada for discussion.
•  In January 2003 a tripartite assessment concluded that there was sufficient chance of reaching an Agreement in Principle that treaty talks have been scheduled until December 2003.

Cowichan Tribes

(2001)

•  Prepare and negotiate terms of an Interim Measures Agreement for a community forest pilot agreement.
•  Prepare proposal in the format required by MOF to initiate the process.

Shxw'owhamel First Nation

(2003 - ongoing)

•  Complete evaluation of economic development opportunities on three Shxw'owhamel Reserves. Train two Band members in all aspects of the evaluation.
•  Follow up on best possibilities and facilitate meetings between the two Band members and potential partners.
•  Train two community members on how to conduct effective and meaningful meetings with their own community members.
•  Evaluation of campground, gas bar and café continues.

Matsqui First Nation

(2003)

•  Coordinated ongoing discussion and research by City of Abbotsford to apply liquid bio solids to Matsqui Island IR #3.

•  Facilitated community consultation that resulted in a vote by community members not to have bio solids applied to their Reserve lands.

 

Shuswap Nation Tribal Council Society, Kamloops , B.C.

(2001-2002)

•  Evaluate partial cutting opportunities and forest tenure options in the Kamloops Forest District.
•  Meet with all major licensees to explore joint ventures and other business opportunities of mutual interest.
•  Contactor hired for pilot harvest.

Winds and Voices Environmental Services

Winnipeg , Manitoba

(2001)

•  Team member to prepare a due diligence review for a forestry and sawmilling joint venture proposal by Tembec to 11 Manitoba First Nations. Resulted in largest forestry JV with First Nations in Canada .

Squamish Nation

North Vancouver , B.C.

(2001-2002)

•  Forest tenure feasibility study for the Squamish Nation.
•  Tenure is marginally economic at the present time and is on hold

Matsqui First Nation

(2001)

•  Matsqui First Nation Forestlands Management Plan for IR #2 and IR #3
•  Community consultation to create a vision statement for resource management.
•  Timber Permits to be completed in 2003.

Tsilhqot'in National Government (2000-2001)

•  Conduct forestry capacity building and forest sector economic development study for all 5 Tsilhqot'in bands.
•  Project proposed for Xeni Gwet'in has moved through several stages and is still ongoing.

Texada Island Forest Reserve

(1999)

•  Part of select broad multi-disciplinary team to scope out a strategic development plan for 300 ha of Texada waterfront in one day.

Hope/Fraser Canyon Forest Advisory Committee, Hope, B.C.

(1998)

•  Implementation of specific forestry related projects identified in the Five-year Strategic Plan for the Hope/Fraser Canyon area.

 

Kaska Forest Resources

•  Updated Forest Management Plan for Timber Harvesting Area.
•  Resulted in the approval of the first Yukon forest management plan.

Centre for Community Enterprise , Ucluelet, B.C.

(1997)

•  Developed a financial strategy for a First Nations Development Corp. in Clayoquot Sound.
•  Lead to J.V. with Weyerhauser

 

OIKOS Ecological Services Ltd., Smithers, B.C.

(2000)

•  Member of facilitation team for the public consultation of the GVRD Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.
•  Lead to the approval of the management plan.

•  Researched and prepared Five-year Strategic Plan.
•  Utilized innovative public participation techniques.
•  Lead to approval of plan by Fed. Gov.

(1996)

•  Evaluated inventory for the Queen Charlotte Islands Timber Supply Area, identified issues, and made recommendations.
•  Conducted over 70 personal interviews.
•  All recommendations have been accepted and implemented.
