As a long time resident of Vancouver, Robin is an expert in identifying the urban trees throughout the city. On April 8thand 15th, he led public tree walks in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood, which both had fantastic turnouts! In total, around 35 people came out to learn about urban trees. Over 20 trees and shrubs were identified on the walks through Kerrisdale, including horsechesnut, beech, and lilac. Participants even inquired about a few shrubs that stumped Robin (including Cotoneaster)! In addition to learning identification tips for these trees, participants also learned about their traditional uses, their history, and other fun facts.
During the first tree walk, a member brought some poems about trees to read to the group, which was a big hit! One of the poems she read aloud can be found below:

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.
Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.
And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.
